Aprilia was founded in the
aftermath of the Second World War in Noale Italy. Starting out building
primarily small engine motorcycles, Aprilia expanded into world class
motocross machines by the late 1970’s. During the 80’s they added enduro, trials
and road bikes to their lineup, ranging from 50 to 600cc’s. Aprilia also began
outsourcing some engine production to the Austrian Company Rotax. Over the
years, they have become world renown for their smaller cc road bikes, winning
dozens of roadracing championships in the lites divisions. Aprilia is now owned
by Piaggo, which is the 4th largest manufacturer of motorcycles and
scooters in the world.
